I spent a day at the beach with my new friend, everything was fine and dandy except for the fact that every time I looked at her, her face looked slightly different. I didn’t comment on it, but it weirded me out a little. We were walking home when I looked over and realized that now she looked exactly like me, but she just smiled and laughed when I freaked out. I found my reflection in a shop window and there was just a ragged black hole where my face should have been.
Her face was changing. Her nose first, then her irises; gradually her face shifted to the left and her said shortened to a bob- before lengthening again into curls.
Green gained gold flecks, then blue, then brown as her eyes became an amalgam of shapes:
Her hair is brown now- getting lighter every time I look at her- or look away.
I look again and her nose is gone and instead she wears a flat discoloration on her face. It’s back next I focus on it.
I maintain eye contact for as long as I can but again I have to blink and her lips gain a Cupid’s bow not there before.
She smirks before her lips become host to a sheen of glitter lip gloss.
Her cheekbones become prominent, sprouting hair a light brown color. She becomes less “she” like.
I look again and I see myself. We walk by a shop window and I see myself.
There is a blank expanse where my face should be, adorned with dark pits for my eyes. I look back and she is smiling.
